We have a Winner!! It's Jane again!
According to CNN
It's not the vicious wolf, the powerful grizzly, disease carrying mouse, or a prowling cougar that kills Americans most frequently...
IT IS BAMBI!!!!

bears?
It's not bears. Bears killed 133 people in North America during the twentieth century and a handful more since Y2K. Sorry, that's bad, but bears can't compare to the real bad guys.
An average of 0.8 people per year are killed by mountain lions in North America. Nope. It's not the mountain lion.
You did say WILD animals, right? Otherwise, I might guess dogs.
Joan, best I can figure dogs kill about 20 people a year in the US. Wild or not that doesn't match our real non-human mammal villain.
Jane, see what you & Warren can find about deaths caused by horses. I haven't been able to find figures for the US. One site lists horses as the biggest animal killer in British Columbia. Still, horses don't fit my qualification of "wild mammal".
So, no prize winner yet.
I GOT IT...... DEER!!
